NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng announced on 6 November 2024 that nearly 6,000 workers from approximately 260 companies will gain from wage increases and enhanced career development opportunities through the NTUC Company Training Committee (CTC) Grants.
Mr Ng was speaking at a visit to Raffles Hotel Singapore.
To better support workers’ training and drive companies’ transformation, the CTC Grant can also now fund in-house or external training tied to the transformation project, added Mr Ng
Companies can receive up to 70 per cent of qualifying training costs, significantly enhancing support for their transformation efforts.
The change will allow the CTC Grant to provide more comprehensive support to companies in their transformation process.
“Nearly three-quarters of them [the workers] will benefit from real wage growth of about 5 per cent above their annual increment, while the rest will enjoy structured career pathways through Career Development Plans [CDP],” Mr Ng said.
Since its inception in February 2019, NTUC has established over 2,700 CTCs, surpassing the initial target of 2,500 by 2025.
Companies are also beginning to see the benefits of the NTUC initiative, according to Mr Ng.
He said: “The CTC is an NTUC innovation that would enable workers to gain access to training, better wages, welfare and work prospects … We will continue to partner with companies and the Government to ensure that the CTCs remain a win-win outcome for all.”
Raffles Hotel Singapore has been working with NTUC and the Food, Drinks and Allied Workers Union (FDAWU) to implement a CTC Grant project on the Digital Procurement system.
Procurement is essential in the hospitality industry, affecting both day-to-day and long-term operations. It also ensures workers have the necessary resources to deliver quality customer service, according to the hotel.
Raffles Hotel Singapore added that it wants to introduce a cloud-based system that simplifies purchasing, tendering, inventory management, and invoicing to improve these processes.
The upgrade aims to boost efficiency, minimise errors, increase productivity, and support data-driven decisions.
The hotel will train 100 employees to use the new system, with some roles redesigned as part of the project. The project is scheduled for launch in 2025.
Raffles Hotel Singapore Managing Director Christian Westbeld said the company is proud to work with NTUC on its CTC initiative.
“The training as well as the technology will assist to further grow our colleagues’ capabilities, prepare them for career advancement, and most importantly, income growth,” he said.
